The problem is not related to grub. IIRC, now reiserfs is included in
the new linux 2.4.1 _but_ the previous reiserfs is incompatible with the
new one used with the kernel, that is, previous reiserfs file systems 
don't work with new linux kernel (that's what I read, even if I can't 
remember where).

For the SCSI declared as hd1 that's normal if you thought there was a
difference between IDE and SCSI for BIOS thus GRUB (see info files,
there is none); if this is the order (IDE detected before SCSI), this is
BIOS dependant I think.
