savedefault is still not working

hi,

I tried 2 cvs checkouts, and savedefault still doesn't work. The second one
from today has the extended check from 0203 which fails for my setup.
The first checkout didn't complain, but didn't work as well.
Although it reports bad version I guess this is still related to the original
problem. Can someone help please, or does savedefault work somewhere else?
I use a stage1.5, installed everything to hdb with grub-install, my device.map
is ok (hdb is my first disk), the menu list as well, everything seems to work 
except savedefault.
If this cannot easily be fixed this week, please tell me that, or if I can
help in any other way, because I need it this week.
