I have two IDE hds in my K6-2 box. Here are the relevant linux 2.4.1 dmesg lines

hda: SAMSUNG VG36483A (6.48GB), ATA DISK drive
ide: Assuming 33MHz system bus speed for PIO modes; override with idebus=xx
hdc: IBM-DTLA-305020, ATA DISK drive
hdd: TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-M1102, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14
ide1 at 0x170-0x177,0x376 on irq 15
hda: 12685680 sectors (6495 MB) w/494KiB Cache, CHS=789/255/63, (U)DMA
hdc: 40188960 sectors (20577 MB) w/380KiB Cache, CHS=39870/16/63, (U)DMA
hdd: ATAPI 24X DVD-ROM drive, 256kB Cache
Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.12
Partition check:
 /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0: p1 p2 < p5 > p3
 hda3: <bsd: p6 p7 >
 /dev/ide/host0/bus1/target0/lun0: p1 p2 < p5 p6 p7 p8 p9 p10 p11 p12 > p3
Floppy drive(s): fd0 is 1.44M

Normally I boot from the Samsung disc. This booted fine with LILO (and
now boots fine with GRUB). I installed GRUB (5.96 not 5.96.1) on the
IBM disc. I used LILO on the Samsung to chainload GRUB on the IBM,
which worked fine. Then I stupidly deleted and overwrote vital bits of
LILO (aargh). I set the BIOS to boot from the IBM disc.

All I got was

GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB
GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB
GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB GRUB
etc

scrolling quickly down my VGA.

Could this be because the BIOS reordered the disc numbers when booting
from the other drive? Is there anyway of setting things up so I can
boot directly from this drive?
