Small problem...

Hi guys,

I've got a quick one for you.

I'm trying to boot off a compact flash device connected to an IDE to CF adapter
(Compact flash is very similar to IDE) the device behave normally when mounted
under Linux and I can read and write to it without problem.

BUT when I'm trying to boot out of it, it says
GRUB hard disk error

After looking at the documentation I saw that this is encountered when GRUB is
not able to tell the geometry and size of the disk.

I then rebooted with a normal hd as boot device, enter the command mode and
type in the geometry command for the compact flash device:

C/H/S 123/32/63 The number of sectors:250880, LBA

it sees all the 5 partitions on it and even identify the first one as being
ext2fs (which is true)

Question is why grub isn't able to load the second stage of this compact flash
card?

any help appreciated
