Hi all,
I'm experiencing problems with grub in conjunction with HPT 370 IDE controller.
All my HDD are connected to this controller and I’ve tried to install grub 0.90
using stage1.5/stage2 and refuse to boot (it’s hang my computer after displaing
the message: “GRUB loading, please wait.. ”)
After debugging a little I found the problem, it is not from grub, it’s from hpt370
controller. This controller is also a raid and keeps information about raid (even if
you don’t have a raid setup) on the following sector of the hdd 0:0:10 (C:H:S) or
sector 9 in Absolute sector mode. The big problem is that on every reboot the bios
from this controller OVERWRITE this sector with his own raid information and destroy
the code from grub stage1.5 witch usually is written starting with sector 0:0:2 (or
sector 1 in absolute sector mode).
I think will be good to have an option on setup to specify where to install stage1.5
I have install manually stage1.5 strting with sector 0:0:11 (absolute 10) and work fine.
