Three questions: Is the file system mounted while trying this?  What
happens when you try to read something from that file system at this
moment? Which version of mkreiserfs did you use?

Most probably it is a bug in the journal handling code, as that is the
part that changes very often.  There is a known problem with new
versions of mkreiserfs, but I doubt it is your problem.  Anyway, the
patch is at:

Did you change the journal size in mkreiserfs or the linux driver?
Note that reiserfs doesn't store the correct journal size in the file
system.  Grub uses the orig_journal_size field to guess it.
