Well, my english is approximate and one has to replace "proprietary" by
"particular" or "custom-made" drivers i.e. one driver for each type of
reader --- unless someone finds the specifications used by the El Torito
compliant BIOSes to achieve a basic access to the CD drives; since,
AFAIK, the only BIOS whose source is available is the IBM original one, 
it will be probably difficult...

Yep : it's simpler to use... the "correct" rescue and root disk from the
Debian boot-floppies ;)
