Yes, it's possible.
I do start grub from the NT bootloader on some PCs
boot.ini looks like:
[boot loader]
timeout=50
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000" /fastdetect
C:\grublnx.sec="Linux Mandrake 8.2, Grub"
and grublnx.sec is a copy of the sector where grub is (or was) installed ( use
the dd linux command to make it ).
