Sorry, this is not possible.

The "intelligence" for downloading is either in stage2 or in the
network boot prom (etherboot, etc....).

It is even not possible to use stage1_5 for that. But this may be an
interesting hack ! There are several stage1_5 for supporting
exactly one FS, so there should be also one 1.5 for tftp only
to load stage 2.

I do not know, if the driver is small enough for that, but I think, thats possible. Especially there is enough space for stage 1.5 on
disk. Even on a 32MB Compact Flash, there is space for 15.5KB,
the stage 1.5 for minix I tested has only 6.5KB.

For that feature, the GRUB build has to be restructed a little bit.

But use the simple method with a floppy !
There are two ways. The fastest is to make an etherboot floppy.
This Image has only 20KB and is loaded in one second. The GRUB is
fetched via TFTP. There is further a possibility to install the
ehterboot on a harddisk. Perhaps you could check, if this is a
way for you !

With friendly regards
Christoph

Is there a way how to load grub stage1 from harddrive and let it download
the rest from tftp server? I need it to support stations without boot
prom (for them we use pxegrub).
Thank you.
