Reporter: Frikkie Thirion
Summary: HP/Compaq EVO with Western Digital (wd) drive doesn't boot
Version: 0.92 and 0.93
Type: software bug

Message:
Installing SuSE 8.1 with grub 0.92 on a Compaq EVO, model D510EPC, results in
a machine that won't boot. Grub gets to "stage 2" and freezes without providing
the bootmenu. The installed hard drive is a: "Western Digital wd204eb-71cpf0".
I've also tried this with grub 0.93, build from source.

"dmesg" reports the following during bootup (using the CD to boot):

Partition check:

fdisk reports the following:

units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 bytes
         start    end    blocks        id    system
