automake mess

I just found that GRUB is broken for automake 1.7:

  address@hidden:/tmp/grub$ aclocal-1.7 && automake-1.7
  Can't locate Data/Dumper.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/share/autoconf
/etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.0 /usr/local/share/perl/5.8.0 /usr/lib/perl5
/usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.8.0 /usr/share/perl/5.8.0
/usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at /usr/bin/autom4te line 39.
  BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/bin/autom4te line 39.
  configure.in: no proper invocation of AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE was found.
  configure.in: You should verify that configure.in invokes AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE,
  configure.in: that aclocal.m4 is present in the top-level directory,
  configure.in: and that aclocal.m4 was recently regenerated (using aclocal).
  automake-1.7: no `Makefile.am' found or specified

I don't have much idea on autotools, but on other projects I have something

  AC_INIT([tcd], [2.1.2], address@hidden)

Strangely, changing grub's configure.in to match with this scheme didn't help.

Anyone with a better clue on autotools than me could take it a look?
