a. well, i did put it there when i installed the OS. But, also, when i
mount sdc (as rh7.3 on hd1 calls it), i can see in /etc/fstab that / is on
the second partition
-- grub.conf reads partition num 1 on hd2 as having filesystem type
ext2fs, and partition type 0x83
the problem is that grub reports the possible hd2 kernel files as being
vmlinuz-2.4.18-3, not rh9's vmlinuz-2.4.20-8...which is strange, because,
again, in hd2 the fstab data is reported in LABELs, which is rh9 jargon,
yes?
mebbe i have a faulty grub, but i doubt i'd have 2 bad grubs in a row.
Still, every other time i query root (hd1,0) kernel / info i get either
only filesystem tyupand partition type info, or an error...and every other
time i query grub.conf for root (hd2,0) kernel/ i get the possible fields
or just filesystem type and partition type info. (and that is not my
typing, either as i just replace 2 with 1 and hit return...)
how to alter the kernel info grub has? I cannot tell from the manual (i
feel like i am going in circles...) and don't know enuf to use setup or
kernel commands. I tried reinstalling linux, but just got the situation
in reverse (neither grub recognized the other linux disk -- just treats
them like an extension of itself, more or less...
