I didn't quite understand the part of root=/dev/hdc6.

I'm getting to boot from the harddisk by simply typing:

grub> configfile (hd0,0)/grub/grub.conf

After that I get the grub screen with the menu which will proceed
as it is supposed to.

So if the "configfile" command does the job, how come is not being
done automatically? Can you please shed some light on this? Again,
many thanks for your help.

Regards,

Dan
