Detailed information on MediaDirect can be found at

Basically, Dell laptops with MediaDirect have a 'hidden' partition. This
partition is loaded instead of the OS partition when the MediaDirect button
is pushed to start the computer instead of the power button. This is
possible because the MBR has a special second sector which only loads

Since GRUB rewrites the entire MBR, this functionality is lost completely
when GRUB is installed. Is there any possiblity of a MediaDirect-capable
version of GRUB being produced?
