GRUB Error 17

Hi there

I have recently installed the KUBUNTU Linux operating
system on my computer, a KDE-Linux derivated from the ubuntu-distribution of 
Linux.

I have also (earlier) installed windows vista home basic on the same harddisk 
in another partition, but KDE is the standard OS.

Here's my problem: when I try to boot the computer, the BIOS (that ist to say, 
I suppose it's the BIOS) gives the following message: 
loading GRUB, 1.5.
loading GRUB, please wait...
Error 17

and the operating system, that is to say the multiboot menu where you can 
choose the OS that should be started, does not appear.

My question now is, of course: what is error 17 and how can I prevent it?

Here's some additional info about my computer hardware:

CPU: intel core 2 duo E6750, 3,2 GHz
Motherboard: ASUS CPI
Harddisk: SATA 500 GB
Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS 320 MB
