Follow-up Comment #3, bug #30574 (project grub):

I went in to Grubs command line but couldn't figure out how to call or run
ntldr /ntldr. If you can give fuller instruction I will try again.
My computer is a Dell Dimension 8400 with bios revision A09.
XP professional on hd0 was installed by me from the installation CD supplied
with my computer. I use 'Acronis True Image Home V9' to backup my hard disc
and I think at some point I have restored the partition from one of the
backups.
XP professional on hd1 is a clone of the one on hd0 (I use acronis to restore
one of the backups made from hd0 on to hd1). I change the name of the disk but
the UUID of hd1 looks like its the same as the UUID of hd0 - could this be the
problem? I'd be happy to change the UUID or install a fresh XP from the CD if
it would help to test to see if this is the cause of the problem.
The only program I know of that could affect the boot is Acronis but I think
it only does this duing a restore session and only then if its restoring the
partition that the operating system is runing from.
