It has recently been investigated in the thread
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-gsl/2012-09/msg00018.html and
discovered to be, we think, related to optimization.  See, in
particular, http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-gsl/2012-09/msg00036.html.

It would be much appreciated if you'd
   A) file a bug at https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?group=gsl with your
recreate information
   B) resolve it and submit a patch.  :)
