The reason I did not respond immediately was that I did not have debugging
symbols in the binary. I just rebuilt it with what I thought was the same
configuration. However, I now realize that I did not include floppy support
when I ran dh_compress:

# dh_compress -a
dpkg: warning, architecture `i386' not in remapping table
/hurd/ext2fs: /dev/fd0: Device not configured
/hurd/ext2fs: /dev/fd0: Device not configured
/hurd/ext2fs: /dev/fd0: Device not configured
/hurd/ext2fs: /dev/fd0: Device not configured
#

I rebuilt the kernel to include floppy support. This time, I got the
expected result, a panic. The result of addr2line is:

/gnumach/build/i386/linux/../../../i386/linux/../../linux/dev/glue/block.c:940

This is the function init_partition as previously reported.
