I've just checked in a change to gnumach that might address the problem in
machines with a lot of RAM.  

Please test this in machines that have worked before, as well as machines
with a lot of RAM.  I think you can also lie to the kernel using GRUB's
"uppermem" command to test it as if your machine had less memory than it
really does.

This change only addresses the symptom you saw.  I think you will
definitely run into different problems later on if you have as much as 1GB
of memory, but this might work fine for 768MB.  Please tell me how it goes.
