ps just hangs

Here is the problem I'm having:

buildd@hurd:~$ ps

buildd@hurd:~$ gdb ps

found)...

Segmentation fault
buildd@hurd:~$ 

When I su, I can run ps, but not ps -ef.  gdb gets me a little
further, however:
