How do I set the keyboard layout?

Hi List!

After successfully booting the Hurd, I tried in vain to find a setting for the
keyboard layout. How do I switch to the German layout? I'm sick of having to
search for every special character by trial-and-error (although I have to
admit that my hit-rate is improving).
