Well, the X configuration scheme is not well defined in all cases, so it
might be that HasBSD44Sockets was correct once and ceased to be so, or that
it is needed for something different.

You can try to build without this option, but you must test the binaries
after that.  In particular you must test if the X server still accepts local
and remote connections.  I remember having a hard time to achieve that, and
HasBSD44Sockets played a certain role on that issue.  I checked my
old notes and emails, and I have both versions here, with and without
HasBSD, but I also have a mail that explicitely adds it back because
otherwise X wouldn't work.

Also see #72041 in the Debian BTS archive (not sure if that is still
available).
