Indeed, the current Hurd package is not able to handle partition larger
than around 1.6-1.8 GB. You can try the packages at
http://people.debian.org/~mbanck/hurd/hurd_20040508-4+ogi.1_hurd-i386.deb
for example, which has a /hurd/ext2fs.static.big ext2fs translator able
to handle bigger partitions.
