Well, the idea was that some potential student not yet familiar with the
program could read it... In this case, metioning the payment seems
essential; after all, it's the single most distinguishing bit about GSoC
-- otherwise, people can just help independently :-)

OTOH, the likelihood that someone of that kind will indeed see it in the
short period of time till applications close, is not very high... So
maybe drop that part entirely, and go with something simpler:

   The Hurd project has been accepted as a mentoring organisation for <a
   href="http://code.google.com/soc/2008/";>Google Summer of Code
   2008</a>! We have a lot of good <a
   href="http://www.bddebian.com/~wiki/community/gsoc/project_ideas/";>project
   ideas</a> -- let's hope they will result in many successfull projects
   :-)
