Ah, right, the GNU case. Sorry, I totally did not have that one in mind,
even though I know of similar things as I’m also a FreeWRT developer,
which cross-bootstraps a gcc/µClibc system.

So the best option for the (non-glibc) BSDs would probably be to hard-code
SSP-in-libc support depending on the operating system version from the
target tuple?
