I don't see why the Hurd (or subhurds) couldn't be used as a platform for cloud 
computing. But as this buzzword spread like fire on the internet, and cloud 
computing 
is more and more used (even MS is aware of the trend, and acting:
http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/10/27/220208&from=rss), I don't think 
it's a 
niche anymore. 

But zhengda GSOC work is definitely a step towards this approach for the hurd. 
But 
I don't know if actually a subhurd is able to migrate from one host to 
another...

Disclaimer: I'm not a hurd expert (I only played with it in Qemu, and I have 
been following hurd-related mailing lists for quite some time...)
