I think a part is reversing the effect of unfulfilled high expectations of 
people. 

Many people tried the Hurd and though "not worth it". Now they are hard to 
convince to try it again, because they for example fear to waste time. 

But ther are also people like one from the team in my university who answered 
"please don't tell me about it now!" (was already too late) "I need to get 
some other stuff done, and I tend to jump too quickly at these interesting 
things". 

I think they'll check it out again.
