This is strange, because as of 2007-10-07 the build system should detect
this -- that's more than a year ago.  Which Hurd sources are you trying
to build?

I'd guess/it looks like ranlib can't be found.  What does the configure
log say?

Oh, sorry! I'm amazingly dumb here... I've forgotten about
configure at all... :-( No problems like these now.
