Since the niches definitely show that the current target niches are all for tinkerers, and git is more geared towards these than Mercurial, I think that we can also conclude the "hg vs. git" discussion with

"git is more geared toward the target group."

(just wanted to take the outcome of the niches discussion for the dvcs discussion, too :) - it definitely showed that I am not in the main target group - which doesn't mean that I can't use it or that it isn't for me, but just that my needs aren't the ones which are likely to attract more developers in the current state of the Hurd.)
