No, better do it afterwards. I allows us to postpone the decision
whether to preserve full history or not:

You could still drop part of the history in the new split out libihash
and libpthread repositories. Doing it after the conversion doesn't
prevent this at all.

(The main repository would keep the libpthread/libihash history, but
surely this is not a problem for you?)

We already talked about that in a different context: Aesthetics is
seldom a good reason for making gratituous changes...

Anyways, I'm not sure an inconsistent history appeals more to my sense
of aesthetics than a bloated one.
