That's true :-)

Still, I'd very much like to have the time and the knowledge to engage
myself in porting the Hurd to the new microkernel sometimes.

Yes, you are absolutely right: the names met among instances of free
software are truly amazing :-) This makes the life of a free software
programmer a virtually infinite exploration of a wonderland ;-)
