Details:

On machines without a parallel port (e.g. qemu -nodefaults without a
-parallel option), network trafic or simply devprobe eth0 gives general
protection faults like:

Kernel Genreal protection trap, eip 0x1031ba
kernel trap, type 13, code 25a
EAX 00000006 EBX 20000d38 ECX 0000001c EDX 00000006
ESI 002d2b20 EDI 002d2c34 EBP 253a1fb0 ESP 0012bc37
CS 0008 SS 1e41 DS 0010 ES 0010 FS 0010 GS 0010
v86: DS 002c ES 0000 FS 31ba GS 31ba
EIP 001031ba EFLAGS 00000293
trapno 13: General protection , error 0000025a
panic: trap

here, this is at the ret of the end of the spl() function. I guess
there's a problem with irq handling when irq 7 is not used by the
parallel port driver, leading to something like a stack overflow or
such. Note in the figures above that EBP and ESP are very different,
and 0x0012bc37 is in the middle of GNU Mach itself!
