For some time already, it has been believed that Xorg doesn't work on
hurd-i386 any more, and I had mentioned several times that it just
seemed to be a problem between clients and the server. I've just tested
it again, without any xorg.conf, using just qemu 0.12.3+dfsg-2,

startx -- -ac

just works fine. Without -ac, the server requests authentification,
which seems to have been broken by upstream at some point, and thus the
server doesn't get any request to draw anything from clients, and thus
doesn't draw anything and remains black. To get convinced, try

startx -- -retro

And you'll get the retry-style grey background and a cursor to move (but
no client drawings).
