Because it's a wiki, with links to other pages, etc. The mdwn suffix is
however only in the git version of the wiki. From the web interface you
don't see that suffix, but the content is the same.

Why?

Yes, but not forcing cdrom boot lets qemu automatically boot from the
hdd only when it's not-zero.

At least I've never had to tinker anything in my tests:
qemu -cdrom mini.iso -hda foobar -no-kvm-irqchip -m 256
is all I'm using, and I don't need to fiddle with what should be booted.
