Sounds like the issue that I've been experiencing on 2010-10-11:
<http://www.gnu.org/software/hurd/open_issues/emacs.html>. Can be
anything between Emacs <-> glibc <-> Hurd (ext2fs/libdiskfs) <-> glibc
<-> GNU Mach... :-/
