I wouldn't have been able to even think about the SELECT_ERROR bit
before seeing what changes you wanted to make.

That's why submitting patches early, with explanations, is a very useful
thing to do.

If you consider working on libc again (and actually it's also true for
hurd and gnumach), you should probably still assign copyright already,
so it's done by then (it can take some weeks).
