I'm not sure about this, I am one of the people with the boot failures
and was able to get my machine to boot by using a non-stripped kernel
(gnumach-1.4-486-dbg.gz), for some awkward reason that boots just fine.
My bet is that it's a compiler bug of some sort, or perhaps a race
condition.
