Applied unsubmitted-NO_HIDDEN.diff, in the tarball source, built with
"-enable-add-ons=libpthread --enable-pt_chown --disable-nscd
CFLAGS=-O2 --host=i586-gnu --build=i586-gnu"
and I got a working static binary :-D
Now time to do the same with Guix.
