Thanks to the coach back home, I got the time to have a look at
integrating this.  The good news is that there are only half a dozen
test regressions.  I'll try to boot with it, rebuild static servers with
it, etc. and will probably upload that to Debian for now (so that we
have a clearly separate version including only these first bits).
