I have recently started getting crashes from /usr/bin/extract used as part of a much larger system. See output below.
This is on Debian Jessie, and it reports v1.3 (which appears to be the most recent packaged version available for Debian).
It is failing on a number of simple text files. The one to which this log refers is 3106 bytes long and is a plain text file. But other similar files have also failed in the last few days. However, when I run the same file manually from the command file it runs without problems.
The only slightly interesting thing I can see about the file is that it has a few (correctly encoded) utf8 characters in it - some en-dashes by the look of it.
Hope the traceback might be helpful. Is there anything I can do to work round at the moment?
I'd rather not put the file concerned on a mailing list (and I don't know whether this list accepts attachments), but I'm happy to supply it privately if it helps. But as I say, it's happened on a number of different plain text files.
