configuration problem with libtool-1.3.3

I did:
sh configure --prefix=/usr/local/pkg/libtool-1.3.3 --bindir=/usr/local/bin

This later seems to cause libtool to fail because it seems that it
is looking for things relative to the "prefix" directory.
E.g., /usr/local/bin/../share/aclocal/libtool.m4

Maybe I used configure incorrectly but it would seem that if I'm
able to specify both a prefix and a bindir that the software
should behave correctly once installed.
