After that I get:

Making all in .
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/libtool/libtool'
make[1]: Nothing to be done for `all-am'.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/libtool/libtool'
Making all in libltdl
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/libtool/libtool/libltdl'
/bin/sh ./libtool --mode=compile gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I. -g -O2 -c
libtool: ltconfig version `' does not match ltmain.sh version `1.3.5'
Fatal configuration error. See the libtool docs for more information.
make[1]: *** [ltdl.lo] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/libtool/libtool/libltdl'
make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1

There is no ltconfig (or a ltconfig*) anywhere.
Copying the ltconfig from my 1.3.5 version didn't help :/

I suggest someone does a fresh checkout of the CVS repository
and has a look at the bootstrapping.
