Problem in ./configure of mhash

I am attempting to install mhash (http://mhash.sourceforge.net/)
During the ./configure session, I got the following message:

checking if libtool supports shared libraries... yes

The system is Mandrake 7.1 with 
libtool-1.3.5-2mdk and libtool-devel-1.3.5-2mdk installed. The file
refered to (/usr/bin/file) was installed from file-3.30-1mdk
