libtool (1.4.2) includes duplicate -l flags in link arguments, contrary to documentation

Libtool 1.4.x has the annoying behaviour of expanding library 
dependencies giving huge lists of -l flags when linking.  This is 
contrary to the documentation in the "Multiple dependencies" node in the 
info documentation.

It would be great if libtool could be fixed to conform to the documented 
behaviour.
