Well, the patch I sent is actually completely different from that of
http://bugs.debian.org/57087! I don't know where I got my patch from.
I discovered that the latter patch doesn't originate from Sam Couter
after all. I found it posted to bug-libtool in August 2001
http://mail.gnu.org/pipermail/bug-libtool/2001-August/002806.html
apparently from some work by Redhat. This patch was also discussed on
Redhat's bugzilla
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=58664
and on libtool-patches in July 2002
http://mail.gnu.org/pipermail/libtool-patches/2002-July/002061.html
No doubt there are other references.
The patch has not been applied to CVS. Is there some objection to it?
Second, I found that the test case I sent will succeed (erroneously)
because I placed it badly in the sequence of TESTs. Here is an update
of the test case. With unpatched CVS libtool, the test fails (except
when it follws depmod-static.test). With the patch from redhat,
it works.
