The following problem that I reported last fall still occurs for me with
libtool-1.5 and  automake-1.7, though with that combinationalso ran into
the same problem in the pdemo/ directory, with the
longer_file_name_hello and longer_file_name_foo directories.

So, now it's 

 cd demo
 cp hello.c hell0.c
 cp foo.c foo0.c

 cd ../pdemo
 cp longer_file_name_hello.c longer_file_name_hell0.c
 cp longer_file_name_foo.c longer_file_name_foo0.c

And the attached patch.
