        That does it.  Thanks.  I upgraded to libtool-1.5.10 to
        make chasing other issues easier.

        I noticed under Solaris that libtool picks up /usr/ucb/ld even
        when cc is _not_ /usr/ucb/cc (path dependent).  It would be wise
        to look for a different ld if cc is not /usr/ucb/cc.

        It took a while to discover why libucb was being linked in :-)

        The path I was using at the time was.


        cc came from /opt/SUNWspro/bin which uses /usr/ccs/bin/ld.
