Good to know; thanks.

have not found anything about requiring another shell.

You haven't, there wasn't one yet. We ran into problems with some ksh
versions a while ago. We found out that most likely it's a memory
corruption within the shell. AFAIK we've never gotten to the bottm of
this issue.

README?

We can put a hint in, but actually we would like to make Libtool
buildable with this shell, too. So good would be to either fix
the shell bug, or at least be able to characterize it well enough
to be able to avoid it.

Last time I tested it, I remember that adding or removing comments at
strategic places would make the bug go away. Not a nice prospect for
stable exposure or good characterization. :-/

Cheers,
Ralf
