This kooks like a Libtool bug to me.  Especially looking at the output
  make check-local \
       TESTSUITEFLAGS='-k "Runpath in libtool library files" -v -d -x'

I vaguely remember being there before; possibly the obvious fix caused
some other problems, need to look.
