As was noted earlier on the list, there are still problems
with the regular expressions if you use Python 2.2. 
I sent an additional patch later that checked the
Python version and only used pre for version 1.6-2.1
but it still doesn't work with Python 2.2, you just
get the error for another regular expression.
I'm afraid we have to reformulate some of the regexps to
cope with Python 2.2.
